Dearest Clara,

Papa and I arrived at the Hotel Negresco on Tuesday. It has only been open for a few months but is most elegantly appointed! We met up with Herbert Suttle on the Promenade yesterday and inquired about his wife, Gretl, and he replied that she was not long for this world. We said we were sorry to hear she was ill, and Herbert replied that she wasn’t! ?? Then why is she not long for this world? What an odd comment. I don’t know why he says that. Mama
