Desiree Ultican, author of The Empress of the Clouds, loves history and mysterious circumstances. She is a graphic designer by trade, a collector of vintage paper ephemera by inclination and an author by desire and determination. Besides working on novels, she writes short stories and poetry and keeps company with cats and her husband, Jim.
She had some short stories published several years ago. One was picked up by the PEN Syndicated Fiction Project and another won a Missouri fiction prize and she recorded it for National Public Radio. She continued to write furtively but went dormant trying to get published—until recently. Her most recent short stories include “Be Here Now” on the online literary magazine Prometheus Dreaming, and “The Night Traveler” on the blog, Ariel Chart.
